just thought I'd say hi here, as I haven't posted for a bit. I'm healing remarkably well after my surgery and am getting used to the new me, such as it is.

I've been having a lot of fun with crafts lately - knitting, making necklaces, reteaching myself to crochet from the "happy hooker" - and spending way too much money on both crafts and craft supplies online. I think I'm beginning to get somewhat serious about the idea of selling some of my crafty/creative work, primarily because it seem to really motivate me to do more creative work. I don't know if I'll be able to keep it up during the school year, given the way I work, but I'd like to. I feel a bit more, for want to less cliched term, whole when I'm keeping up that side of my self.

I also won a $10 gift certificate at my favorite local bead store, which makes me happy, even if it's less than 10% of what I've spent there this summer alone.

Otherwise, I'm reading a lot - just finished The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde, which was immensely fun - and working my way through Battlestar Galactica as fast as netflix can get it to me. I actually bought Firefly and Serenity which marks the first time I have ever purchased DVD's new, but after watching the first disk from netflix, I realized I would want to watch them again.

I am amazed by the build-up of good TV shows I've missed these past 5 years or so, given the amount of television time that seems to be consumed by reality TV. Until about a month ago, I had actually never watched any modern reality TV. I wasn't sure whether I was proud of the distinction or not, but it was a little weird last month when I got sucked into an episode of So you think you can Dance? while we were visiting Brian's folks. The only reality TV shows I find conceptually interesting are the historical reenactments, and I wouldn't mind watching a few of those. I fear that if I had cable TV in my house, Imight give in to curiousity and get sucked in. After all I'm sort of addicted to the Q13 news - for amusement rather than news - which is often so bad it should be a reality TV show called "Amateur Newscast" or something.

anyway, enough of all that. hope everyone is well.
