it would have been cool if the plot had been about growing turnips and had featured the complete absence of any character named Don Emmanuel.

still a good title though.


This book is one of those novels that I was really disappointed when I finished it because I loved the characters so much. Imagine my joy to discover he'd written two more with many of the same people!

that happened to me with jonathan coe's The Rotters' Club. turned out it was part one of a two part story!
